Fight against anemia and malnutrition among children in rural China with CCTF

Created in 1981, China Children and Teenagers’ Foundation (CCTF) aims to implement long-term solutions to respond to development and health problems in children. The NGO already helped more than 12 millions of children in China, especially through the creation of Happy Centers.

In China, malnutrition remains high for children under 5 years old who live in rural zone, especially in poor areas. The growth rate for children under 5 is 4.3% in urban areas and reaches 18.7% in rural zones. The Project YYB’s goal (for Yingyangbao) is to fight against anemia and malnutrition among children aged between 6 and 24 months in rural China by feeding them with a fortified powder of proteins, iron, folic acid, calcium, zinc and vitamins called Yingyangbao.

The funding from the Carrefour Foundation of €153 071 will enable to feed over 500 children from very poor families daily for 18 months with this fortified meal. A successful pilot project was carried out in 2008 by the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and financed by UNICEF to feed over 30 000 children following Sichuan earthquakeIn 2017 and 2018, the objective of CCTF is to reach 1 370 000 undernourished children that would benefit from the food supplement nationwide.

To generate more income for the association, Carrefour is making YYB available to the general public in its stores since the 7 of November 2017. Besides, a hundred employees decided to sponsor a child beneficiary of the program.

On the 5th of December, Carrefour China was awarded the "Charity & Fashion Star Prize" due to its fight against malnutrition, especially for this YYB project!
