WeWorld (Brazil)
WeWorld has been working in Brazil since 2014, mainly in the state of Cearà, in the Northeast, in the areas of education, gender, socio-economic development, health, nutrition and climate action . Over the years, WeWorld Brazil has reached 28 municipalities, 150 public primary schools and more than 30 groups of family farmers in the semi-arid region, the area most affected by the climate crisis. In 2010, the right to food was enshrined in the Brazilian Constitution as a universal social right; implying that no one should suffer from hunger, malnutrition and food insecurity and guaranteeing access to adequate and healthy food.
For example, in Brazil, a decree requires public schools to provide a substantial meal before students return from school to ensure adequate nutritional intake. However, food preparation and distribution services are often not implemented as they should be in practice. This is why the supported project aims to meet this need by improving nutritional education in 53 public schools, by raising awareness among the entire educational community about healthy and quality food through training with the cooks involved in the project and awareness campaigns for teachers, school staff and students.
