Working hand in hand with two local organizations, the Sawiris Foundation and the Samusocial International Egypt (SSIEG), the Carrefour Foundation has set up a project aimed at improving the living conditions of these children.
This overall objective was broken down over 12 months into several achievements. First, the project provided 1,500 children living on the streets and in shelters a healthy diet. In pursuit of this objective, a nutritionist was hired whose mission was to identify nutrition related diseases in children (anemia, obesity, diabetes, etc.) and to suggest the implementation of healthy diets. On the basis of a nutritional plan, the shelters and the day care centers were provided with a monthly healthy food supply. The clinics of these shelters and day care centers were also updated to offer better medical services. Street children also received healthy snacks during the night rounds done by the team of SSIEG. This nutritional axis has complemented the medical, psychological and legal services provide to street children during the SSIEG night rounds.
